Come and discover La Maison des Traditions, a site of living memory focusing on the history of the peasant life and the countryside of Vallée Noire or « The Black Valley », so dear to George Sand.
Inaugurated in 2003, this municipal museum is set in an old traditional farm.
During a century (in this case 1850 to 1950), the peasant life has undergone profound and rapid changes in its work practices, know-how and way of life.
This evolution is revived through restored spaces, workshops, artefacts, farming tools and –machines.
A visit on your own or with our guides will give you the keys to understand the transition from the traditional rural life to the arrival of modern agriculture.
Walk through our exhibitions spaces of more than 1000 square meters. In each room you will find an agricultural activity, typical for our region (winemaking, cereal farming, etc.). Discover our big collection of agricultural machines, witnesses of this stupendous modernity. To this collection is added several workshops: The clog maker, the blacksmith or farrier, the cooper and so on…
Enter an authentic farmhouse dating from the 1950’s (but containing older interior details), a heartwarming witness of the rural life.
