The Rural Festival On the last Sunday in July During the rural festival, the tools and machines, normally exhibited inside the museum, are put back into operation. Spend this summer day with us, relive the peasant life of yesteryear and attend the procession of our old agricultural machines! |
Here are some farming tools you will encounter in our impressive collection: A “Locomobile” or traction engine; a threshing machine; a “javeleuse”, a sort of harvester or combine harvester; a motor tractor from the company Société Française de Vierzon, with its characteristic noise that made its reputation… After a walk among these machines, they will no longer have any secrets to you!
Among these oldies, you will find the so called “moto-scie fendeuse”, a unique device from the 1940’s, also called “la batteuse à bois”, a log splitter. This machine was invented by Emile Jouhanneau, a mechanic from La Châtre. It was manufactured from recycled parts and the framework is a chassis from an old Citroën C6G!
With this machine, Emile Jouhanneau toured the roads of our “Vallée Noire” at the speed of 12 mph! When he arrived at a village square, he used his incredible thresher to saw and split the wood, in return for some coins.
This amazing ambulant sawmill is only to be seen in our Museum!
